Duo (Multi-factor authentication)

The information on this page is specific to systems operated by the Center for High Performance Computing. If you have questions about using Duo for other University of Utah resources, such as Canvas, UMail, or EPIC, please see the University Information Technology (UIT) documentation.

Two-factor authentication is required to access CHPC resources, per University of Utah policy (Rule 4-004D III.B.3). The CHPC uses the same Duo system as other University of Utah resources, such as Canvas and Campus Information Services (CIS). Most CHPC users use a smartphone or other device with the Duo app for authentication, though it is also possible to purchase a physical token through the Campus Store if this is not feasible for you.

If you have any issues with Duo two-factor authentication, you can find more information on the University Information Technology (UIT) website. The CHPC cannot help with Duo-related issues; if you have problems logging in, you will need to contact UIT.

If you need to register or re-register your device, please use the Duo Management Portal.
If you have not set up Duo before, you will need register your device by visiting the Duo Management Portal. This will add your device to the campus Duo service. You can also get to this page by logging in to Campus Information Services (CIS).
Some CHPC users have reported issues calling the UIT helpdesk from international phone numbers when attempting to resolve Duo-related issues. If this is an issue for you, we recommend sending an email to helpdesk@utah.edu instead of calling the helpdesk.
