CHPC DOWNTIME - Tuesday October 20th at 5 pm
Date Posted: October 5th, 2020
This downtime is to replace (upgrade) the core networking switch in INSCC. The expectation is that this will take 4 hours.
- While no equipment (cluster nodes, Windows servers, storage, virtual machines) in the DDC will be taken offline, until the new switch is in place there will be no access to these systems. Therefore, users will not be able to login into any CHPC managed systems, including mounts of CHPC file systems on desktops.
- There will also be no access to any systems housed in INSCC, WBB and Sutton from outside the buildings while the switch is being replaced.
- We will also take advantage of this downtime to apply system updates on the Windows servers Narwhal and Beehive. Please save your work and log out BEFORE 5pm on October 20th on these systems.
Additional details: We are replacing the core INSCC networking switch as the first step in upgrading the CHPC network to both provide higher network speeds as well as higher availability as we are adding redundancy. In the long term, this upgrade will allow for CHPC to move to 100G between campus and the DDC once the campus network allows for this. The plan is to have the new switch in place before the downtime and then during the downtime we will move to the new switch and test before releasing access to all.
