CHPC OUTAGE: Degraded network performance; Network Disruption Sunday December 27, 10:30 am
Posted December 17th, 2020
Update 12/24/2020
On Sunday December 27 at about 10:30am there will be a short outage in connectivity to CHPC resources. We expect the outage to be about 15 minutes if all goes as expected. This interruption is to reboot the Cisco switch after applying changes provided by the vendor to address the packet losses we have been experiencing. We will send a note out when the work has been completed.
Update 12/22/2020 at 11:30 am:
While the network issues have been greatly reduced, we are still observing intermittent issues with packet loss. If you experience issues with access to CHPC resources, license servers, etc we recommend that you try again. We welcome reports of any issues to helpdesk@chpc.utah.edu.
CHPC is continuing to work with the vendor to resolve the issue.
Update 4:40 pm:
In working with the switch vendor, we have been able to isolate the problem. Work is continuing to put a fix in place that will prevent the issue from recurring.
10:00 am:
Since yesterday (December 16th) we have been observing network issues, specifically a high incidence of dropped packets. Note that this does not seem to be related to the network upgrades completed during the Tuesday downtime, but it does seem to be related to the network issues CHPC experienced in early November.
From a CHPC usage perspective this is impacting access to CHPC resources and resulting in connection timeouts and issues with access to external resources.
CHPC is working with the campus network operation center as well as with the Cisco technical team to resolve the issues. We will provide an update when we have more information.
